Lincoln, Neb., November 17th, 2009 —

The director of agriculture, economics and sustainability for Monsanto Co. will present a public lecture -- "Producing More While Conserving More: Can We Do It?" -- Nov. 20 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Michael Doane will present the talk at 10:30 a.m. in the Kauffman Center Great Hall, southeast of 14th and Vine streets on City Campus. Attendees should enter through the south doors. A question and answer session will follow his presentation.

Doane has worked for Monsanto Co. for 10 years in a variety of industry relations and sales management roles. In his current position, he is based at the company's St. Louis headquarters and works on issues related to the economic and environmental sustainability of agriculture systems.

A Kansas native, Doane grew up on his family's diversified crop and livestock farm. He maintains an interest in the family farming operation managed by his parents and brothers. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in agricultural economics from Kansas State University. Before joining Monsanto, he was executive director of the Kansas Association of Wheat Growers.

"Michael Doane brings an important perspective on agricultural sustainability and we're fortunate to host someone with his expertise at UNL," said Prem S. Paul, vice chancellor for research and economic development. "This lecture is an example of our increased efforts at building industry partnerships."

Doane's lecture is hosted by UNL's Office of Research and Economic Development and NUtech Ventures.
