Tell us about your company.
McCarthy builds the facilities and infrastructure that drive progress, including research labs, hospital expansions, advanced manufacturing plants and educational institutions. For more than 25 years, we’ve worked across Nebraska, developing the local relationships and market knowledge that make a real difference in how projects come together.
In the bioscience sector, McCarthy’s Nebraska team works with a broad range of businesses and institutions at various stages of development and growth. We excel at delivering technically complex projects with precision and integrity.
Why is Nebraska important to your company and to the bioscience industry in general?
More than two decades ago, McCarthy took on its first major Nebraska project and laid the groundwork for our long-term commitment to the Cornhusker State. Since opening our full-service Omaha office in 2007, we’ve been proud to partner with many of the region’s most prominent businesses and institutions to build their facility construction and expansion projects.
Nebraska is quickly becoming a cornerstone for construction growth in the biosciences, life sciences and agricultural technology sectors. Nationally recognized institutions like the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) and the Nebraska Innovation Campus are fueling growth in biomedical research, vaccine development, biomanufacturing and more. As these organizations continue to drive innovation and investment across the state, they are generating an increasing demand for advanced, specialized construction solutions. McCarthy is well positioned to help these innovators build what comes next.
What does 25 years of working in Nebraska mean to the clients and communities you serve?
We’re fully invested here. Our team has built key relationships and gained perspectives that benefit our clients and enrich the region at large. The buildings and infrastructure we deliver become woven into the fabric of daily life — often for generations. That’s a source of pride and responsibility for all of us.

Walk us through one of your current Omaha projects.
Our team is overseeing construction of the CORE (Campus Operations and Research Excellence) Building in the newly developed EDGE District just west of the University of Nebraska Medical Center campus. Designed to advance biomedical research, the six-story facility accommodates wet and dry laboratories, startup incubator space, and shelled floors for future tenant build-out. It’s scheduled to open later this summer and will support UNMC’s long-term mission in drug discovery, oncology, and life sciences commercialization.
What does McCarthy see as its responsibility to the communities where it builds?
As a community builder, we believe our responsibility extends well beyond delivering a project on time and on budget. It starts with how we structure our work. We’re deliberate about creating opportunities for local subcontractors and trade partners — because their expertise strengthens our projects and their success benefits the broader community. Our commitment to Omaha also extends beyond the jobsite. Through our Heart Hats® community service program, employee-owners are encouraged to use paid time away from work to support causes and organizations that improve lives across the region. That includes community initiatives such as the American Heart Association’s Hard Hats with Heart campaign, CASA for Douglas County, and efforts to advance women in the architecture, engineering and construction industry.
