Tell us about MMC Contractors.

We’re a national commercial mechanical contractor specializing in building and servicing complex projects of any size. We serve a variety of industries including healthcare, pharmaceutical, mission critical, industrial, and more. With eight offices nationwide and two locally — in Omaha and Lincoln — we pride ourselves on providing the personal attention of a local partner backed by national resources and expertise. Our teams bring unique and innovative solutions to the projects we work on with our subject matter experts and quality tradespeople.

What products and services do you offer?

MMC Contractors provides mechanical and plumbing construction and 24/7 service on a variety of complex projects in the markets we serve. Our approach has us engaged in the building process early in order to begin providing value to the client as quickly as possible, and we offer preconstruction and prefabrication capabilities to ensure we can add value at every step during the construction process.

Recently, MMC Contractors has established a controls division in Nebraska. Our expert controls team specialized in full building systems integrations to ensure our clients’ buildings are running smoothly 24/7. With a knowledge of a wide variety of controls systems, our team can facilitate even the most complex integrations.

How many employees?

MMC Contractors is part of a national group of companies with nearly 2,000 employees nationwide and more than 400 in Nebraska. With offices nationwide, clients can be sure our teams are well-equipped to provide quality craftsmanship and expertise to any project, anywhere. We’re ready to solve a client’s challenges by tapping into our experts’ knowledge and sizeable workforce from across the country.

Who are your customers?

Our teams partner with a wide range of clients throughout the region including health systems, bio-manufacturers, and labs. These partnerships allow us to play a part in the thriving bio-ecosystem in Nebraska. Locally, we serve two major pharmaceutical clients, and many more nationally.

What are some of the biggest challenges facing your industry today and how does MMC Contractors play a role in helping overcome them?

Labor shortages continue to present a challenge for the construction and facilities industries. When working with our clients we strive to become part of their team in learning their processes and maintenance programs to provide the best service possible. With 30+ years’ experience in building and maintaining pharmaceutical facilities, we are there to help navigate to the best solutions for the client.

To combat this within our company, we have a “Train Your Replacement” mentality. Each of us has the opportunity to grow and advance in our careers, and as we do, we have the obligation to pay those opportunities forward to those coming in behind us. This mentality fosters mentorship on and off the jobsite, supplemented by structured learning courses in Construct U, our school within a business, designed to build technical and leadership skills to ensure our workforce is well-equipped to build the extraordinary for our clients.

We’re also heavily involved in workforce development initiatives in the community, introducing young people to the trades. We’re proud to host Omaha’s second annual Heavy Metal Summer Experience again this summer. This three-week experience gives students hands-on learning opportunities with MMC Contractors’ expert tradespeople in disciplines including piping and sheet metal, giving them the skills and knowledge they need to begin pursuing a career in the trades.
