Lyle Middendorf
Retired Sr. VP and Chief Technical Officer, LI-COR Biosciences
Lyle Middendorf recently retired from LI-COR Biosciences, where he served as the company’s Senior Vice President – Medical Devices and CTO. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) in 1973 with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Middendorf has been with LI-COR since 1972, serving in various capacities involving manufacturing, engineering, marketing, administration, and R&D. Starting in the early 1980’s, he directed a collaborative research effort with UNL personnel to develop instrumentation and reagents for molecular biology and genetics research, leading to a new business unit of LI-COR that commercialized automated DNA sequencing based on near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) technology. Today LI-COR commercializes protein analysis reagents and instrumentation as well as medical imaging agents using this NIRF technology. Mr. Middendorf primarily focuses on applications involving the labeling and detection of biomolecules for both life science research and clinical markets.
