For our August Member Spotlight, we caught up with McCarthy, a local contractor with national resources fueled by a passion for building and a commitment to doing quality work. We last spoke with them in September 2023.
What products/services do you offer?
McCarthy is a world-class builder that shapes communities and advances industries. We take pride in delivering end-to-end project lifecycle expertise from initial visioning and feasibility through construction and final occupancy. With core services that include construction management, general contracting, design-build and EPC procurement, we provide flexible solutions tailored to each client’s needs. In the bioscience sector, our Nebraska team serves a diverse range of businesses and institutions as we support their innovation and growth goals. Our team also has deep expertise in the Healthcare, Advanced Technology, Manufacturing, K–12 and Higher Education sectors.

We talked to you two years ago—tell us about your evolution or growth during that time.
Over the past two years, our Nebraska office has experienced steady growth. Our team has deepened relationships with long-term client partners while welcoming several new ones into the fold. It’s an honor to support our clients in achieving the outcomes that matter most to them, and the feedback we’ve received has been nothing short of inspiring.
We’re also committed to fostering a culture where our people can thrive, grow and do their best work. That commitment is reflected in our recent recognition in the Greater Omaha Chamber’s 2025 Best Places to Work in Omaha award.
From a community perspective, we continue to find purpose and joy in giving back to the place we call home. This year, we raised nearly $85,000 for the American Heart Association’s inaugural Hard Hats with Heart Omaha fundraising event, which brought our team and partners together to support a cause close to so many of us.

What challenges do you see on the horizon for the industry? How does your company help address those challenges?
The ongoing labor shortage and widening skills gap continue to challenge the construction industry. With a growing number of experienced tradespeople retiring and fewer young workers entering the field, the need for reliable, skilled craft labor has never been greater. To help address this gap, McCarthy has invested in an Innovation and Craft Workforce Training Center, a facility dedicated to hands-on craft training for both our employees and our trade partners. This center is more than a training ground; it’s a hub for building skills, promoting safety and advancing careers in the trades. By continually developing our craft professionals and supporting the growth of our partners, we’re helping to ensure a stronger, more resilient construction workforce for the future.
McCarthy has also made an intentional effort to advance workforce development. Our Partnership for Women resource group focuses on career development, mentorship and outreach programs that empower women and help them grow within the company. Since launching the group in 2016, McCarthy has seen a significant increase in female representation across all roles—from project engineers and superintendents to executive leaders.

Why is Nebraska important to your company and to the industry in general?
More than two decades ago, McCarthy took on its first major Nebraska project and laid the groundwork for our long-term commitment to the Cornhusker State. Since opening our full-service Omaha office, the McCarthy team has completed more than $1 billion in construction projects across the state. We’ve been fortunate to partner with many of the region’s most prominent businesses and institutions to oversee their facility construction and expansion projects.
Nebraska is quickly becoming a cornerstone for construction growth in the biosciences, life sciences and agricultural technology sectors. Nationally recognized institutions like the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) and the Nebraska Innovation Campus are fueling growth in biomedical research, vaccine development, biomanufacturing and more. As these organizations continue to drive innovation and investment across the state, they are generating an increasing demand for advanced, specialized construction solutions. McCarthy’s expertise in high-tech industrial construction, utility coordination and integrated project delivery methods equips us to be a valuable partner to these innovators.
How does your company support the biosciences?
McCarthy is a proud supporter of Bio Nebraska and Women in Biosciences initiatives, and we’re honored to invest in the future of STEM programs in Nebraska to support the pipeline of future Bioscientists across our state.
